Los Lances, in Tarifa, is an immense and spectacular beach that stretches over more than 7 km (from Punta de la Peña to Punta de Tarifa) with an average width of about 120 meters. Its fine golden sand, clear turquoise water, and breathtaking sunsets draw comparisons to the Caribbean. Located along the edge of the city center and within a natural park, it offers stunning views of the Strait of Gibraltar and all the way to Morocco, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean. Nicknamed the European capital of kitesurfing and windsurfing, it is above all a paradise for wind sports. Tarifa being the windiest city in Europe, the wind blows almost year-round, making it an ideal spot for kite, windsurf, wing(foil), and surfing, with its vast expanse (2.5 km of usable space and more) always guaranteeing a spot. It also features beach volleyball, kayaking, schools, showers, beach bars, and a good lifeguard service. A few recurring downsides: the wind can be so strong that the sand stings the face and makes lounging difficult, the water is rather cold, and the accumulation of seaweed on the shore is an increasing problem, sometimes foul-smelling. In calm weather, however, many describe it as the most beautiful beach imaginable.
