The Santa María del Mar beach in Cádiz is an urban golden-sand beach about 850 meters long, located near the city center and offering a spectacular view of the old town and the golden cathedral. It has been awarded the Blue Flag and is appreciated for its fine sand, clear and temperate water, as well as its facilities (showers, toilets, changing rooms for around €1, and even a medical unit). In terms of sports, it is a renowned surf spot: a wide beach, ideal for surfing as there are almost always waves. Several reviews describe it as a hotspot for surfing, with cafes at each end and good waves for beginners. The waves are also suitable for bodyboarding and are enjoyed by children. However, be cautious: there can be strong rip currents in some areas, so stay alert.
