Valdevaqueros, near Tarifa, is a spectacular and vast beach with fine golden sand, backed by impressive dunes and lined with beach bars and water sports schools. Located where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, with Africa visible across the water, it is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cadiz region, with crystal-clear water and stunning sunsets over the dunes. Above all, it is a wind sports paradise. The reliable wind, particularly the Levante, makes it one of the best kitesurfing spots near Tarifa; its uniquely curved coastline softens the otherwise unpredictable offshore Levante. It is equally popular with windsurfers, and its vast open space lends itself to all kinds of water sports depending on the conditions. On-site, there are kitesurfing schools, equipment rental, restaurants, and bars, making it a fully equipped hub for the sport. One downside: with thousands of kitesurfers and surfers in the water, swimming is often discouraged (sometimes even prohibited), and it can be difficult to relax, as the wind cools the water and a kite could fall on you. Watching the kitesurfers remains a fascinating spectacle, however. For a peaceful swim, head to nearby Punta Paloma.
